Other AbstractThe detection and tracking of small weak object in distance under the low contrast background is widely studied all over the world, and it also is of critical importance in photoelectric counterwork. With the affection of the atmosphere, the SNR of the object is very low and the object is so small that it is made up by a few image pixels. So it is hard to detect. In this paper, some algorithms are compared, a real-time algorithm to inspect and track small object under low contrast is presented, and the algorithm is applied on the DSP platform. The algorithm takes advantage of the properties of the object. First of all, change the original image into edge image by edge inspecting. Secondly improve SNR of the edge image through the time correlation of the object. After that, as the object is space-correlative, it can be detected from the background by space clustering. In the stage of tracking, the track of the object is used to perform stable tracking. As far as the circumstance of multi-object, some work has also been done in this paper. While the algorithm is applied on the DSP platform, many characteristics of the C6201 CPU are considered, and it does work in real-time. All the results of the experiments are good.
